fiberflame is our effort to honor and feed the ancient human need to adorn ourselves, our loved ones, and our environment with handmade beauty. in a mass-produced world, it feels good, essential even, to make, have, give and receive one-of-a-kind, imperfectly-rendered objects.
we have been making things for as long as we can remember-masks from cardboard boxes and costumes of hand-me-downs and dress-up bins, books filled with letters and shapes before we could read or write, chunky beaded necklaces and earrings, stuffed friends with button eyes. as adults, our need to create has led us to knit, quilt, felt and sew, hand dip candles, carve, print and make cards, paint on fabric with dyes, wax, flour and glue (not all at once), write, collage, hammer and sand, play with clay, stones and precious metals.
without formal fine arts training, experimentation, playfulness and exchange with others are integral to our creative process. raised in the hudson valley, and back home after years away, we are so excited to create a venue for that exchange and experimentation, while building a community of everyday artists at fiberflame!
we look forward to seeing you in the studio!
happy making,
shea and christina
